Lately I’ve been listening to:
July // Noah Cyrus
As you guys know, I’m huge fan of Miley Cyrus. I guess its no surprise that I’ve come to like her younger sisters tunes as well. Noah’s music is typically in the pop-trap realm but on the final day of July, she released the moody folk-inspired single, July. July deals with struggling to end a toxic relationship. I will link Noah breaking down the lyrics here, it’s super cute & a mini therapy session. This has also been one of my favorite songs of 2019.
Cinnamon Girl // Lana Del Rey
One of my most anticipated albums this year was Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! Lana originally announced the album in August 2018 but initial release took place in August of 2019. Although nearly a year gap, she surely did not disappoint. NFR was a bit of a departure from most of Lana’s work. It truly is in a lane of its own, but I find the most similar record would be Ultraviolence.
None of Your Concern // Jhené Aiko
What is with all the good breakup songs the past few months? Jhené Aiko dropped the surprise release of None of Your Concern in mid-November & it left the internet shook (mostly due to Big Sean’s x-rated confessions, which imo dilute the track). None of Your Concern is another introspective track figuring out what went wrong & where in a past relationship. It’s one of those songs that everyone can relate to.
Pony // Wavves
Again with my resurgence into indie / lo-fi, Wavves is another one of my college faves. V has always been my favorite record of theirs.
