songs of the week // october 8th, 2018

Hey guys! I was feeling a little under the weather last week so I’m coming at you with my September songs a little later:

Fight the Feeling // Mac Miller

Mac’s passing at the beginning of last month hit me hard. Growing up in western Pennsylvania, I got the chance to watch Mac grow & prosper as an artist. I loved his early work but I also loved the artist he became. We were always rooting for him. Macadelic Best Day Ever both got me through some of the toughest times.

Controlla // Drake

I felt that most of Drake’s Views was overplayed & abandoned it for the longest time, Controlla has been a forgotten bop of mine.

SICKO MODE // Travis Scott

ASTROWORLD was in my rotation for most of the month of September, I love how the album as a whole is constructed, & each song effortlessly flows into the next. I’m not big into the ‘new wave’ of rap but a few of the songs kept popping up on the Drake & Kendrick Lamar stations & they were too catchy.

Tune in next month to find what I’ve been listening too. If you have any suggestions for posts or video ideas, let me know as well. 🙂

I’ve been listening to:

Us & Them // Pink Floyd

Greta Van Fleet reminded how much I love Zeppelin & Floyd so I’ve spent the last month with Dark Side of the Moon on repeat. Another favorite track of mine is Time.

Meet Me In the Hallway // Harry Styles

Boy did I forget how much I loved Harry Styles solo debut. This song gave me a Pink Floyd vibe from the first time I heard it. For a change, there’s a bit of a pattern in my music taste.

Playinwitme [Remix] feat. Logic & Kehlani // KYLE

I was super duper stoked when I woke up one Monday to this remix being released! I love the original but Logic’s verse takes thing song to a whole new level.

sweetener // Ariana Grande

sweetener is the album I’ve always wanted from Ari, the whole album has been on rotation since it was released & the title track has been my favorite recently.

Tune in next month to find out what I’ve been listening to.

songs of the week // august 2nd, 2018

I’ve been listening to:

God is a woman // Ariana Grande

God is a woman has honestly been my favorite song released in 2018. We love a female power anthem.

High Horse // Kacey Musgraves

Most of my favorite music is high energy but I do have a soft spot for something soft & acoustic — Golden Hour has been that album for me recently. An atypical choice if we’re being real. My musical taste is spread across most genres, but country is far & few in my Spotify. I enjoy the country music my grandparents listened to, but I find the modern take to be immensely repetitive. Kacey Musgraves is a breath of fresh air, her vintage blend of country & pop is seamless & alluring.

Edge of Darkness // Greta Van Fleet

Greta Van Fleet is the best new band I have heard in a long while. How these guys are so young with so much soul is incredible. The way they’ve presented their Zeppelin-esque sound is parallel to how Lana Del Rey transports us to the 1950’s with each record she releases. I think Greta Van Fleet has the rare power to unite opposing generations of music lovers.

songs of the week // what I listened to on my blog break

Hello everyone 💥 I hope everyone had a wonderful fourth of July. Today I’m showing off what I was listening to while I was away:

Buried Alive // Logic

Like Whoa // Logic

Hallelujah // Logic

Logic has been heavy in my rotation since the fall. I feel like no matter what he makes is so damn good! Mixtapes, albums – they’re all catchy with great meaning / hooks. I’ve listed my favorites from each of his albums.

Blue by You // Turnstile

Hardcore is another genre I got super into as well in the fall of last year. I love both punk & metal so it’s no surprise this hybrid of the two fell into my lap. Turnstile is easily my favorite I’ve found so far, but I also enjoy Knocked Loose & Code Orange.

Saturnalia // Marilyn Manson

Growing up, I was the kid who made fun of the goth kids, (because I secretly wanted to be one but was too worried about what others thought of me) but here I am at 23 obsessed with the new Manson record. This record started coming up on Spotify’s Slipknot radio & the more I heard, the more I couldn’t get enough.

Froot // Marina & the Diamonds

Marina used to be one of my faves in high school & after listening to her again in recent months, I remember why. Her voice & overall aesthetic makes her one of the most unique of our generation. She also announced on Twitter this week she is releasing a new album in the fall!

Lonely // Demi Lovato

Demi is forever my favorite. I have been a fan of her since seeing her on tour with the Jonas Brothers in 2008 & at times, it feels like I’ve grown up with her. Her music has always spoken to me. I felt a little less alone after watching Simply Complicated & seeing her go through some issues similar to my own. I only recently listened to Tell Me You Love Me & I can’t lie, I’m kicking myself. This project is easily her best album. I always look forward to what Demi has in store but I can’t help but predict that her next record will be even better than TMYLM.

Broken Clocks // SZA

2017 was an awesome year for new artists & SZA was just one of the artists who got their big break. Hearing Drew Barrymore for the first time was one of my most iconic moments of 2017.

songs of the week // july 28th, 2017

This week I’m listening to:

hannah-alaine-songs-of-the-week-1

When the World Was At War Before We Kept Dancing // Lana Del Rey

This weeks list is going to be extremely similar to last week, not sorry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lust for Life’s release late last week means it’s everything I’ve been listening to. It truly was a battle trying to pick which song I wanted to feature this week. I bounced between Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind & Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems (because Stevie Nicks, obviously), but I settled on this track because the lyric on this record that stuck out the most to me has been Is it the end of an era? / Is it the end of America? which is just sung in such a haunting way, it will ring in the back of anyone’s mind.

hannah-alaine-songs-of-the-week-2
Custer // Slipknot

I promise next week I won’t be featuring any Lana or Slipknot but I’m throwing in another thrash metal inspired track from Slipknot’s last record.

hannah-alaine-songs-of-the-week-3
Alive With the Glory of Love // Say Anything

It was moody & brooding – although, before my time, I’ve grown to love the darkness of early 2000’s pop punk. Say Anything, as well as Four Year Strong & New Found Glory are what I consider the holy trinity of this time. When the latest wave of pop punk hit the scene around 2010 I was initially turned off by the sound that had developed but I grew to love both & learned that pop punk really isn’t as happy-go-lucky as I had originally thought. Say Anything’s …Is A Real Boy, in my opinion, is one of the best pop punk albums of all time.
